I have been teaching this workshop for a while now and am thrilled that it is now available as a kit. There are 9 stitched “pages” and once completed, they are then attached to a beautiful concertina book and folded up like a magical, mysterious little book of delights. The colours are naturals, white, cream and beige- very classy I’ll have you know! Perfect for that unusual hand made wedding gift, maybe?
There are lots of components in this kit which includes: A little concertina book folded and ready to use; 9 pieces of white cotton fabric, already stiffened; a book of fully illustrated instructions showing each of the 9 pages separately; DMC threads; a little book of Tigley’s favourite stitches; snippets of fabric- silk, muslin, organza and vintage lace; embellishments- buttons and beads; a pack with 2 embroidery needles and some beautiful cream ribbon to wrap around your completed book to make it even more special and to keep it safe.
In addition to these materials you will need normal matching sewing thread, scissors, pins, a thin beading needle, some double sided tape and an iron to complete your design.
Some of the photographs here show the processes involved in assembling the kit- the vintage lace is dyed, each design is drawn on using a light box, the threads are in six main colours with a little extra yellow and grey for the bee, the book is made from high quality patterned paper, cut and then folded to fit your fabric pages. All you have to do is pick up a needle and start stitching- no preparation is needed.
There are no templates to use, just pictures and instructions to follow. The designs are already drawn onto the fabric. The DMC threads are in 6 main colours and you may choose where to use each colour or just match them to the pictures.
Your kit may not have exactly the same materials as shown in the picture. Vintage lace is sometimes difficult to source so yours may look a bit different to that shown in the pictures. It will be still be of the same high quality and colour.
For those of you with more creative souls, you may wish to make up your own bespoke designs with the materials included. This is such a lovely piece to make, and will keep you busy for many hours.

The little concertina book when opened up flat, measures roughly 68cm x 12cm.
