Join Julie to learn the mystery of machine embroidery. This is now such a popular art form and can be done in so many different ways. Rather than make one finished piece and learn one technique, Julie aims to show you many ways that machine embroidery can be used with plenty of examples to inspire you. Suitable for beginners, sometimes even easier, as you have to forget everything you’ve previously learned about precision and just go with the flow. You will need to bring your own sewing machine, as long as you can drop the feed (or can cover the teeth with a plate) and have an embroidery foot. Just bring yourself and your sense of humour, guaranteed to result in excited squeals from time to time! At the end of the day you will take away a stunning sampler showing various techniques. All the examples shown in these images have been made in one day by absolute beginners. All workshops run from 10am till 4pm.
Learn how to:
- Drop the feed on your machine and “draw” using the thread
- Experiment stitching with and without a hoop
- Stitch with freedom- anywhere, any direction
- Use bondaweb to apply cut fabrics onto a background
- Add paint successfully, without the bleed
- Use transfer pens
- Write words freehand
- Be inspired to make your own designs and see how versatile and truly addictive this art form really is

Testimonials “What a fantastic Day! I am so proud and amazed at what I have achieved. Thank you to Julie for all her advice, help and ideas. The homemade cake was a wonderful treat, I feel I have been well looked after”.
“I Returned home yesterday full of happiness from the beginners machine embroidery workshop taught by the lovely Julie Brand in her beautiful studio in Worcestershire. What an inspiration she is! We each came away with our own version of her unique style of embroidered/painted flowers, birds, butterflies, seed-heads and adornments etc ably tutored and demonstrated by Julie in a relaxed and friendly environment. If you come to one of her classes with even just a glimmer of enthusiasm and energy, Julie will send you home with a deep flame of inspiration to tackle your own ‘grand design’ if the mood takes you. Thank you Julie x” Liz
“Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop and would highly recommend. Could have stayed in Julie’s lovely studio for hours on end. I am a total novice and Julie is such a brilliant teacher. She is very open about her techniques and her work is amazing. I’ve come away from the workshop with a piece of work that I didn’t think I could do and feel really happy. My head is buzzing with ideas. Absolutely loved it and met some lovely ladies too. Thank you so much Julie ” Marie
